Exploring the Snake River? 3 Points of Interest to Check Out!

The Snake River is 1,076 miles long, with most of that spanning across southern and western Idaho (about 769 miles). Along the hundreds of miles, you’ll find countless points of interest, including historical sites, geological wonders, and more.

You can even see some of these points of interest when you’re on a Snake River Idaho rafting trip. Whether you live in Idaho or you’re just visiting, here are a few points of interest along the Snake River to check out!

Perrine Bridge and the Snake River Canyon

You might call it one of the most impressive bridges in Idaho. Perrine Bridge spans the Snake River Canyon and the Snake River itself and connects Interstate 84 with the city of Twin Falls. The truss arch bridge is over 1,500 feet across and about 486 feet above the river.

On any given day, you’ll find BASE jumpers jumping from the bridge's deck into the canyon (there are safe landing zones below). You’ll also find paddleboarders, boaters, and rafters having a blast in the calm waters of the Snake River below.

Bruneau Dunes State Park

West of Perrine Bridge and Twin Falls, and along the shores of the Snake River, is Bruneau Dunes State Park. The park features a few sand dunes and lakes. There’s even an observatory where you can take in the stars (it’s open on select dates between March and October).

The main dune at the park is roughly 470 feet tall and considered the tallest “single dune structure” in North America. You can hike up to the top and use a sandboard to sled down for some exhilarating fun!

Hells Canyon

Further northwest from Bruneau along the Snake River is Hells Canyon. It’s about 71 miles long, 10 miles wide at its widest point, and 7,993 feet deep at its deepest, making it the deepest river gorge in North America (the Grand Canyon in Arizona is 6,093 feet deep).

It’s also where you can find epic Snake River rafting tours. A rafting tour is a great way to experience Hells Canyon, along with everything it has to offer, from the breathtaking views to the region's wildlife.
